This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy, and if ineffective after using other oral hypoglycemic agents, it may be combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, and insulin. Additionally, for patients with type 2 diabetes, it is crucial to also pursue nutritional counseling, weight loss, and exercise therapy. These treatment methods not only assist in initial treatment but also help maintain the long-term efficacy of the medication. Therefore, this medication is utilized to effectively improve blood sugar levels.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and is effective in reducing blood sugar levels by improving insulin resistance. During the use of this medication, attention should be paid to symptoms of heart failure. If sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, or swelling in the legs occurs, it is imperative to consult a doctor immediately. Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use this medication. Patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer should also avoid this medication, and if symptoms such as urination disorders or hematuria arise, they should promptly inform medical staff. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, diabetic ketoacidosis patients, and type 1 diabetes patients should not use this medication either. When used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so one must be well aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to respond, adjusting doses of other medications if necessary. Edema or weight gain may occur, so it is important to regularly monitor for these symptoms. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and pre-menopausal women should use adequate contraception as this medication may trigger ovulation. Elderly patients should be monitored closely for cardiovascular and kidney functions during use. Regular liver function tests and blood sugar monitoring should be conducted, and if symptoms indicating potential liver damage arise, medical staff should be informed immediately. In cases of overdose, even if there are no specific symptoms, one should go to a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication is not used in children due to unknown safety and efficacy.
