Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of Helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcer, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and maintenance therapy for preventing re-bleeding of gastric ulcers.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, as well as being effective as a long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It also helps relieve symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is used in combination therapy with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori to treat duodenal ulcers and prevent the recurrence of peptic ulcers. It is effective as a short-term treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms related to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use and in treating and preventing gastric ulcers. It is also used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent re-bleeding of gastric or duodenal ulcers. Overall, it improves the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal-related disorders.
This medication should be swallowed with liquids such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. 1) Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis: 20 mg once daily - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily, even after symptom relief, continue with 20 mg once daily.
Adolescents over 12 years - Treatment of erosive esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks - Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily, after symptom relief
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication or its components or have a history of hypersensitivity to benzimidazole derivatives. Patients with allergies to certain antibiotics used in eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori should also avoid this medication. Women who are breastfeeding or patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication. Caution is advised as various adverse reactions can occur with this medication. For instance, problems related to blood, allergic reactions, electrolyte imbalances, psychiatric and neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal disorders have been reported. Regular check-ups are particularly important during long-term use. Since this medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, there may be a slight increase in the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, patients should consult healthcare professionals if diarrhea persists. Furthermore, long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, necessitating regular monitoring in patients with osteoporosis risk. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is important to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken. There is limited safety data regarding the use of this medication during pregnancy, so it should be used with caution in pregnant women. It is advisable for nursing women to avoid taking this medication. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment should be given based on symptoms; keep out of reach of children.
