It is effective for those who find it difficult to manage blood glucose while following dietary and exercise treatments. Combination therapy can lead to more stable blood glucose control. By improving patients' blood glucose levels, this drug contributes to the prevention of complications. Therefore, this drug is used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy.

Precautions

This medication can cause a serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, and should not be administered to patients with certain medical conditions. In particular, patients with severely impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction may be at risk if this medication is used. Additionally, it is necessary to discontinue this medication during acute infections, dehydration, heart failure, or other situations where the patient's physical condition rapidly deteriorates. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood glucose should be monitored closely. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to regularly check for vitamin B12 deficiency during prolonged use. It is safer for pregnant or nursing women not to use this medication, and they should consult a doctor if necessary. Since elderly patients often have decreased kidney function, frequent kidney function tests are required to determine the appropriate dosage. This medication may interact with various other drugs, so it is essential to inform the healthcare provider of any other medications being taken. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, so the dosage should be strictly adhered to, and if abnormal symptoms appear, a medical institution should be visited immediately. When storing, keep out of reach of children and store in a moisture-free environment.
