View approved original text

This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to reduce elevated triglyceride levels in patients with endogenous hypertriglyceridemia. It can be administered alone for hypertriglyceridemia (type IV) and is effectively used in combination with statin drugs for mixed hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia (type IIb). It especially helps improve triglyceride levels in patients with mixed types who are not well controlled on statin therapy. Therefore, this drug has a wide range of applications in the treatment of various types of hypertriglyceridemia.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients who have hypersensitivity to any of its components or in children under 18 years of age. Patients at high risk of bleeding due to severe trauma or surgery, patients with poor liver function, and those allergic to fish should use this drug with caution. During the use of this drug, various adverse reactions may occur, such as dyspepsia, dizziness, headache, or rash, so if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is necessary. Before starting treatment, it is important to check the patient's blood triglyceride levels and to improve lifestyle issues such as being overweight or excessive alcohol consumption. This drug is not used for exogenous hypertriglyceridemia, and its use experience is limited in specific situations such as diabetic patients. During administration, liver function and LDL cholesterol levels should be regularly checked to ensure there are no abnormalities. This drug can affect blood clotting, so when taken with anticoagulants or acetylsalicylic acid, the risk of bleeding should be monitored closely. During pregnancy, it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks as the safety for the fetus has not been established, and caution is also necessary for breastfeeding women.
