Precautions

This medication may affect liver function; therefore, if symptoms of liver dysfunction or jaundice occur, the drug should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be received. This medication contains zinc, which may interfere with copper absorption, potentially leading to copper deficiency. This could cause anemia or decreased blood cell counts, especially in patients with poor nutritional status; treatment should be sought if abnormal symptoms arise. Due to the potential for allergic reactions, if symptoms such as rash, itching, or hives occur, administration should be discontinued. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, indigestion, constipation, vomiting, heartburn, and diarrhea may occur during treatment; if symptoms are severe, consultation with a physician is advised. If taken with penicillamine or levothyroxine sodium, the effectiveness of these drugs may decrease; precautions should be taken to space the administration of these medications adequately if they are to be taken together. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. Lactating women should avoid this medication as it may be excreted in breast milk. Safety in children has not been confirmed; therefore, it is advisable not to use in pediatric patients. Elderly patients may have impaired gastrointestinal function, so dosage should be adjusted, and the patient's condition should be monitored closely. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers to maintain quality.
