This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold hands and feet caused by chronic arterial occlusive diseases, such as Buerger's disease or occlusive arterial sclerosis, as well as diabetic peripheral vascular disease. Additionally, it plays a role in preventing recurrence after a cerebral infarction occurs. Therefore, this drug is effective for various symptoms related to blood circulation problems and for the prevention of recurrent cerebral infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

For cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg orally once a day. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase heart rate, which could lead to the possibility of angina-like symptoms such as chest pain, so careful monitoring for angina symptoms is required. This medication should not be used in patients at risk of bleeding or those who have recently had a hemorrhagic stroke or surgery. This drug is also not administered to patients with congestive heart failure whose cardiac function is compromised, as it can exacerbate symptoms. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should avoid using it. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication. In cases of suspected serious side effects, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. Early signs of blood disorders should be reported immediately, and a complete blood count test should be conducted if necessary. This medication may cause dizziness, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with food may increase the drug concentration and side effects, so it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach. Particularly, caution is needed after high-fat meals as absorption of the drug may increase. This medication is metabolized by certain liver enzymes, so interactions may occur when taken with some other medications. Special caution should be exercised when using it with anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, some antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, etc., due to the risk of bleeding and changes in blood pressure.
