Effectiveness in improving type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin when sufficient effect is not achieved with other oral hypoglycemic agents. Patients with type 2 diabetes should also participate in nutritional counseling and weight loss, and engage in regular exercise. These efforts are crucial not only for initial treatment but also for maintaining the effectiveness of medication therapy. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control.
This medication is taken orally once daily, regardless of meals. For monotherapy, it may start at 15 mg once daily, and if the effect is insufficient, it can be increased to 30 mg once daily. For combination therapy, it is also administered at an initial dose of 15 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience using this medication in children under 18 years, so its administration is not recommended.

Patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not use this medication, and if symptoms appear, they should consult a healthcare professional immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication can cause fluid retention, so caution is especially needed for patients with heart disease; consider dosage adjustment or discontinuation if edema or signs of heart failure appear. If symptoms such as hematuria, urinary obstruction, or urgency appear during treatment, there may be a risk of bladder cancer, and the physician should be notified immediately. Patients with genetic lactase deficiency should not take this medication. This medication should not be administered to patients with heart failure, bladder cancer, liver disease, severe kidney disease, diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes, pregnant women, or women who may become pregnant. When used in combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents, there may be a risk of hypoglycemia, so dosage adjustment may be necessary. Pre-menopausal women should use effective contraception, as this medication may stimulate ovulation and pose a risk of pregnancy. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests is recommended, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel promptly. Weight gain and edema may occur during the use of this medication, and patients with heart disease should closely monitor for edema and signs of heart failure. Elderly patients and patients with kidney or liver function impairment should use this medication with increased caution. In case of overdose, there might not be specific symptoms; however, appropriate treatment should be provided according to clinical signs. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, so it is not recommended for use in this population.
