This medication is used to enhance blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications to increase its effectiveness.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dose of this medication is 5 mg once daily. It can be administered regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its active ingredient or other components. It is also safer not to administer it to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. When used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylurea medications that can cause hypoglycemia, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so dose adjustments may be necessary. In patients with heart failure, it should be used with caution, and it is particularly not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Acute pancreatitis symptoms may occur, so if severe abdominal pain persists, discontinue use of this medication immediately and consult a physician. There may be a risk of developing a blistering skin disease called bullous pemphigoid, and if skin abnormalities occur, stop taking the medication and consult a specialist. During the use of this medication, watch for symptoms of hypoglycemia, and reports of adverse reactions include infections, gastrointestinal disturbances, and skin rashes. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication, and caution is particularly advised for those who are breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below 10 years of age have not been established, thus it is not recommended. Elderly patients can use it without special dosage adjustments, and patients with impaired kidney or liver function can also be dosed without adjustments. In the case of overdose, residual medication in the gastrointestinal tract should be removed, and appropriate treatment should be given according to the symptoms.
