Efficacy & effects

Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Amlodipine and Olmesartan medoxomil combination is used in cases of essential hypertension, which is difficult to control when the cause is not clearly defined. This medication dilates blood vessels and lowers blood pressure, thereby improving blood circulation. The two components work together to effectively lower blood pressure and help prevent cardiovascular complications. Thus, this combination is used to help patients who have difficulty managing their blood pressure achieve stable control.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so discontinuation is necessary as soon as pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who have allergies or hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its ingredients should not use it. Patients with certain conditions such as pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe hypotension, severe heart valve disease, acute heart failure, or severely impaired kidney or liver function should avoid taking this medication as it may be dangerous. Patients with reduced blood volume, renal problems, or impaired liver function should exercise caution when using this medication, and their condition should be closely monitored. As this medication lowers blood pressure, symptoms of hypotension may occur, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication can affect electrolyte levels in the blood, so regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor electrolyte status. While taking this medication, interactions may occur with certain drugs, so if other medications are being used, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is essential. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is not recommended for patients under 18 years of age. Elderly patients may respond more sensitively to this medication due to decreased kidney and liver function and should start at a lower dose and take it cautiously. Overdose may result in symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia; if these symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight and moisture, and kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided.
