Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. It helps improve memory and cognitive function, thereby assisting patients in conducting their daily lives more smoothly. It is effective in slowing the progression of symptoms or managing those symptoms. As a result, it contributes to improving the quality of life for both patients and their families. For these reasons, it is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
This medication should be taken orally once a day at the same time each day. If necessary, it can be taken twice a day. Adult dosage increase: The maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, it should be increased by 5 mg weekly for the first 3 weeks. First week (days 1-7): Take 5 mg once daily. Second week (days 8-14): Take 10 mg once daily. Third week (days 15-21): Take 15 mg once daily.
This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to its ingredients or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Caution is required for patients with epilepsy or those who have experienced seizures in the past, as the risk of side effects may increase when taking certain NMDA antagonist drugs together. Patients with elevated urinary pH should also be carefully monitored, and there is insufficient clinical data available for patients with heart disease or uncontrolled hypertension, so caution is advised. When taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may occur, and additionally, central nervous system symptoms such as confusion, hallucinations, and seizures may appear. Moreover, this drug can interact with several other medications, so it is important to consult a doctor or pharmacist when taking it with NMDA antagonists, antipsychotics, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits before taking this medication, and nursing mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding. It is preferable not to use this drug in children or adolescents under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. In the case of overdose, central nervous system symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms may appear, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication could affect a patient's response time and concentration, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container for safety.
