Inhibition of cardiovascular disease risk through reduction of cholesterol and lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, familial) and sitosterolemia.
This drug is used to reduce cholesterol and other lipid levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and homozygous sitosterolemia. In particular, it helps to lower key lipid markers such as total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and apolipoprotein B (Apo B). It can be administered alone or together with other lipid-lowering agents in conjunction with dietary therapy, playing an important role in reducing cardiovascular disease risk associated with hyperlipidemia. Additionally, before using this drug, secondary causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism should be excluded and appropriate tests conducted for safe and effective treatment. Overall, this drug is used to improve dyslipidemia and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The recommended dosage for this drug is 10 mg once daily, taken regardless of meals. When used in conjunction with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, initiation of the combination should be started at the recommended initial dose of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, or if the patient is already receiving a high dose of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, the dose of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor should be maintained while administering this drug.
This drug should not be used in patients with allergic reactions to its components. Patients with severely impaired liver function or persistently elevated liver enzyme levels without an apparent cause should not take this drug in conjunction with certain lipid-lowering agents. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are prohibited from taking this drug along with certain lipid-lowering agents, so they should consult a doctor before administration. The use of this drug is not recommended in patients with moderate to severe liver dysfunction, and careful judgement should be made. Symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur when using this drug, and in rare cases, side effects such as muscle pain or elevated liver enzyme levels may also occur. If muscle pain or weakness symptoms appear, notify a doctor immediately, and in severe cases, drug discontinuation may be necessary. Patients with severely impaired kidney function should also be cautious when using this drug, and dose adjustments may be needed. Drug interactions may occur when used in combination with other drugs, so all medications being taken should be informed to healthcare providers. Particularly, caution is required when used with cholestyramine, fenofibrate, cyclosporine, anticoagulants, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult healthcare providers before administration of this drug, and caution is also needed if breastfeeding. In children, this drug is not recommended for those under 6 years of age, and can be administered from the age of 6 under a doctor's judgement. Elderly patients can generally use it safely, but some may be more sensitive to the drug, so caution is necessary. When storing the drug, keep it out of reach of children, and be careful not to transfer it to another container.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), anaphylaxis, hypersensitivity reactions including rash and angioedema, skin mucous membrane syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), eosinophilia and systemic symptoms associated drug reaction (DRESS), severe skin adverse reactions including erythema multiforme (SCARs), drug-induced liver damage, hepatitis, thrombocytopenia, pancreatitis, renal failure (kidney disease), rhabdomyolysis, myopathy.

This drug is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in its original sealed container. The storage temperature should be kept between 1 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature.
