Improvement of primary hyperlipidemia (hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia)
This medication is used to treat primary hyperlipidemia, specifically hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa) and combined hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia (Types IIb and III), as well as hypertriglyceridemia (Type IV). It effectively improves various forms of hyperlipidemia and helps control blood lipid levels.
Fenofibrate is to be taken orally as 160 mg once daily immediately after meals. Fenofibrate must be used in conjunction with dietary measures, and should be taken immediately after meals to ensure better absorption (except for the 145 mg formulation).
This medicine should not be used in patients with impaired liver function. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should also avoid taking this medicine, as it may cause muscle damage. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, should not take this medicine. Patients allergic to this medicine or any of its ingredients should not take it. Patients with gallbladder issues or a history of gallstones should avoid this medicine. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions or skin damage due to light while taking fibrate drugs or ketoprofen should also refrain from using this medicine. Children should not take this medicine. Patients with cholangitis or pancreatitis should avoid this medicine. Patients with genetic diseases affecting lactose digestion should not take this medicine due to the lactose content. Patients allergic to soybean oil, soybeans, peanuts, etc., should not take this medicine. Patients with mild renal impairment or a history of it should reduce the dosage or increase the dosing interval as there is a risk of muscle damage. Patients with liver function abnormalities or a past history of liver issues should undergo regular liver function tests while taking this medicine and discontinue use if abnormalities are found. Patients with low serum albumin levels (such as those with nephrotic syndrome) should use caution when taking this medicine. Patients with a history of gallstones should be cautious as it may recur. Patients taking anticoagulant medications should be aware of the risk of bleeding. The risk of muscle damage may increase when taking this medicine with cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, so co-administration should be avoided or done with caution. Elderly patients may have decreased liver and kidney function, making them more susceptible to adverse reactions, and should take this medicine under careful supervision. While taking this medication, various side effects such as liver dysfunction, skin rash, muscle pain, digestive disturbances, and blood abnormalities may occur, so patients should consult a doctor immediately if symptoms appear. In particular, if muscle pain, weakness, or increased creatine kinase levels occur, the medication should be stopped and the patient should seek medical attention. This medication is intended to control blood lipid levels, so it should only be considered after proper dietary and exercise regimens have been implemented and blood lipid levels should be monitored regularly during treatment. During pregnancy, it may harm the fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medicine, and breastfeeding should also be avoided. This medicine is not to be administered to children. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so strict adherence to the prescribed dosage is essential, and if overdose is suspected, medical personnel should be consulted immediately. This medicine should be kept out of reach of children, and caution should be exercised to prevent deterioration of quality by transferring it to another container.
