Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat infections in the eyes. First, individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or bacitracin should not use this medication. Symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness of the eyelids, conjunctivitis, or temporary stinging of the eyes may occur during use. If these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately. Additionally, there may be occasional discomfort, such as irritation or pain, so caution is necessary. This medication should only be used for the necessary minimum duration after verifying the susceptibility of the infectious bacteria to prevent the development of resistant bacteria. It is advisable to conduct thorough medical history and skin reaction tests before use to prevent serious allergic reactions, such as shock. With long-term or repeated use, there may be excessive proliferation of resistant bacteria, and in this case, the drug should be discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be received. The components of this medication should not be used in conjunction with tetracycline antibiotics. When using systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics, careful monitoring of blood concentration is required. During treatment, it is recommended to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. Vision may become temporarily blurred after instillation, so activities such as driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. When used with anticoagulants, there may be an increase in anticoagulant effects, so it is essential to check the condition through blood tests (INR) and adjust the dosage of anticoagulants if necessary. During pregnancy, animal studies have not reported teratogenic effects, but it should only be used when absolutely necessary. If breastfeeding, care should be taken as it may harm the baby, and it is advisable to consult a doctor before making a decision. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as keratitis, erythema, increased tearing, swelling, and itching may appear, and monitoring of the drug concentration levels in the blood may be necessary, along with treatments such as dialysis if needed. Finally, this medication should not be injected directly into the eyes, and caution is necessary due to reported resistance in some bacteria during treatment.
