Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. People who have had an allergy to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Patients with orthostatic hypotension, which can cause sudden drops in blood pressure, may worsen their symptoms if they take this medicine and should avoid it. Patients with severely impaired liver function may experience increased drug concentrations in the blood, which can heighten the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired kidney function or the elderly should use this medication cautiously. There may be interactions when taken with antihypertensives, certain cardiovascular medications, PDE5 inhibitors (for erectile dysfunction), and CYP3A4 inhibitors. Patients taking alpha-1 blockers generally should not take this medication together, but if necessary, must do so under careful physician guidance. Precautions are necessary if there is an allergy to certain dyes included in this medication. Common side effects may include dizziness, headaches, dyspepsia, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and decreased semen volume, with rare but serious side effects including severe allergic reactions, blood pressure drops, and priapism. There is a particular risk of fainting due to rapid drops in blood pressure; if symptoms occur, the patient should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. This medication can lower blood pressure, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage and avoid overdose. Patients should move slowly when standing up to prevent dizziness caused by blood pressure drops. It is advisable to avoid tasks that require concentration, such as driving or operating dangerous machinery, if dizziness occurs. This medication should not be chewed or crushed and must be taken with water as directed. It should be kept out of the reach of children and not transferred to another container. Safety has not been established for use during pregnancy or in individuals under 18 years of age. It is important to check for prostate cancer before starting treatment; this medication helps alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia but is not a fundamental treatment. If symptoms do not improve, other treatment methods should be considered.
