Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and by nursing women. It should also not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction. Patients who may experience hypertension due to certain tumors or those who are allergic to this medication should avoid its use. It is contraindicated in patients with epilepsy, those in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, and those with conditions related to breast diseases in females. Patients with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance should also not use this drug. Caution should be exercised when administering this drug to patients with hypertension, children, and elderly patients, especially children, to prevent overdose. While taking this medication, symptoms such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia due to endocrine abnormalities may occur, thus careful monitoring is required. Rarely, neurological side effects such as tremors, tongue twisting, and restlessness may occur, and if such symptoms appear, the medication should be discontinued. With prolonged use, involuntary movements around the mouth may emerge, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. This medication may cause cardiovascular side effects such as hypertension and arrhythmias. Rarely, a serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, and changes in consciousness, necessitating immediate discontinuation and appropriate treatment. If skin rashes or edema occur, the medication should also be discontinued, and symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, and dizziness have been reported. During treatment with this drug, it is advisable to avoid activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. Caution is necessary when using this medication with other drugs, especially anticholinergics, opioid analgesics, digitalis preparations, and psychiatric medications. Additionally, the risk of cardiac arrhythmia may increase when combined with medications that affect heart rhythm, requiring observation. This drug should not be used during pregnancy or nursing due to safety concerns for the fetus and newborn. In elderly patients, the dosage and interval of administration should be carefully adjusted due to possible kidney function decline, leading to increased drug concentration. Although this medication is effective in alleviating vomiting symptoms, it may not be effective for vomiting due to poisoning, bowel obstruction, or brain tumors, so caution is necessary. Animal studies have reported possible risks of reproductive function impairment and tumorigenesis with long-term high-dose administration; thus caution is warranted with long-term use.
