This medication is used to control hypertension and to treat myocardial ischemia caused by deficient blood supply to the heart muscle due to stable angina caused by narrowed coronary arteries and variant angina due to vascular spasms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken with a sufficient amount of water. Administer 2.5 mg of esamlodipine orally once daily and may increase to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. The dosage may be adjusted appropriately based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this medication or have experienced hypersensitivity to similar drugs should not be administered this medication. Furthermore, this medication should not be used in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nor in breastfeeding women. Patients in cardiac shock, those with severe heart valve disease, unstable angina patients, or those who have recently had a myocardial infarction should also not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver function or very low blood pressure should avoid this medication. Additionally, due to the lactose component of this medication, patients with certain genetic lactose intolerance conditions should not take it. Caution is needed when administering this medication to patients with severely impaired kidney function, the elderly, patients with acute heart failure, those with suddenly elevated blood pressure, or those with mildly to moderately impaired liver function. Generally, this medication is well tolerated, but side effects such as flushing with warmth, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, indigestion, drowsiness, and ankle swelling may occur during use. Rarely, side effects such as dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, blood abnormalities, skin rashes, and liver dysfunction can occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms; therefore, the dosage must be gradually reduced as directed by a doctor, and one should not stop taking it arbitrarily. Special care should be taken for heart failure patients, as symptoms like pulmonary congestion may appear when using this medication. Take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and be cautious of dizziness or drowsiness caused by the blood pressure-lowering effect, so avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so make sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking, especially about certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, and grapefruit juice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety of this medication has not been established, so use should be avoided; if breastfeeding, it is recommended to stop nursing. It is recommended to use this medication for children aged 6 years and older; safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6 years of age. Elderly patients should start with a lower dose, as blood levels of this medication may be higher. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension and cardiac abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
