This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. In particular, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with multiple risk factors for coronary artery disease and patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it lowers the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, vascular procedures, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina in patients who already have coronary artery disease, thereby improving their health. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia, it decreases total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, while increasing good HDL-cholesterol levels. This medication is used effectively as an adjunct therapy for patients with dyslipidemia that is not controlled by diet, as well as for various types of hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this medication assists in the management of both cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia.

Precautions

Discontinue this medication immediately if any unusual muscle symptoms occur. Especially, consult a doctor if muscle pain or weakness worsens or if creatine kinase levels significantly increase. Patients with impaired liver function or a history of liver disease should not use this medication. Additionally, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Patients with alcohol dependence, hypothyroidism, or renal impairment should take caution when using this medication, as the risk of muscle adverse reactions may increase, requiring regular monitoring. Dose adjustments or discontinuation may be necessary when taken with certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals.
