It is contraindicated for individuals with allergies to the active ingredients or components, type 1 diabetes patients, and those with severe renal impairment. Use of this medication should be avoided in cases of acute conditions that may affect kidney function, such as dehydration, severe infections, or acute heart failure. Patients with poor liver function or gastrointestinal disorders, those in acute alcohol intoxication, or with alcohol dependence should also avoid using this medication. Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to take this medication. This medication entails a risk of hypoglycemia, especially when used together with sulfonylureas or insulin, which may cause blood sugar levels to drop too low. Acute pancreatitis or skin blistering conditions may occur, thus any persistent severe abdominal pain or abnormal skin symptoms during usage should be consulted with a doctor immediately. There may be interactions when taken with other medications; hence, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers of all current medications. Elderly individuals often experience decreased kidney function, so renal function should be monitored frequently, and dosage adjustments made if necessary. If planning a pregnancy or if currently pregnant, this medication should be avoided, and alternative treatment methods for blood sugar control should be considered. Children and adolescents are not recommended to use this medication as its safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established.
