Improvement in blood glucose control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is taken in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens to help control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes using both linagliptin and metformin. It helps effectively manage blood glucose levels and alleviate symptoms of diabetes.
The dosage for this medication is determined based on the maximum recommended dosages of 2.5 mg of linagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin, not exceeding two doses per day, considering each patient's current therapy, efficacy, and tolerance. This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not treated with metformin: As an initial dosage, take this medication at 2.5/500 mg twice a day, one tablet at a time.
This medication may rarely cause a serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so caution is necessary. Patients with allergies to any of the active ingredients or components of this drug, those with type 1 diabetes, those with lactic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis, and those with severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Additionally, it should be avoided in cases of acute illnesses such as dehydration, severe infections, myocardial infarction, and shock, as well as in patients with liver dysfunction. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are also advised not to use this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so blood glucose levels should be closely monitored, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas. To reduce the risk of lactic acidosis, use this medication cautiously if blood glucose is poorly controlled or if there is excessive alcohol consumption, liver dysfunction, or cardiac conditions. If renal function is impaired, either avoid taking this medication or undergo regular kidney function tests; the elderly should also have their renal function periodically checked. If iodine contrast agents are used during radiological examinations, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after the examination. It should also be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery, and patients with heart failure should use it cautiously depending on their condition. If acute pancreatitis or suspected skin blistering disease occurs while taking this medication, it should be stopped immediately and the physician should be consulted. Long-term use may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so if anemia or neurological symptoms appear, vitamin B12 testing should be done. There may be interactions with other medications, so inform the doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other drugs. Women who are pregnant or planning to conceive should consider insulin therapy instead of this medication; nursing mothers should also avoid taking it. It is not recommended for children under 10 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients commonly have reduced renal function, so appropriate dosage adjustments and regular renal function testing are necessary. The effects on driving or operating machinery are not established, but caution is advised due to the risk of hypoglycemia. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, so immediate medical treatment is required, and dialysis may be necessary.
