Adult dose

This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily, with the generally recommended starting dose being 10/20mg daily. Patients who require less reduction in LDL cholesterol may start at 10/10mg daily. The recommended dosage for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10/40mg daily.

This medication can cause serious muscle-related side effects, such as myopathy and rhabdomyolysis; therefore, patients should inform their doctor immediately if they experience muscle pain or weakness during treatment. Particularly, the risk of these side effects may increase when taken at high doses or in combination with certain medications, so caution is needed. This medication is not to be administered to patients with liver dysfunction or active liver disease, pregnant or nursing women. Additionally, it should not be combined with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as certain antifungals, antibiotics, antiviral agents, gemfibrozil, cyclosporine, or Danazol. Patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Care should be taken when using this medication in patients with myasthenia gravis or ocular myasthenia gravis, and discontinuation is advised if symptoms worsen. Regular liver function tests and muscle-related testing are important during the treatment with this medication. Women planning for pregnancy or who may become pregnant should consult their doctor before taking this medication and must discontinue it during pregnancy. This medication is only to be used with limitations in children and adolescents and is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. Elderly patients may also be more sensitive to this medication, so caution is required during administration. It is advisable to avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit juice while taking this medication, and when starting new medications, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals about the current use of this medication.
