Main use
Treatment of insomnia
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Use the lowest effective dose of this medicine. The recommended daily dose for adults is 1mg. If clinically necessary, the dose may be increased to 2-3mg. Since taking this medicine may impair driving or other activities requiring full alertness the following day, take it once immediately before bedtime, allowing at least 7-8 hours between taking the medicine and waking up. Do not exceed the recommended dose of 3mg; take once immediately before bedtime. For elderly or debilitated patients, do not exceed 2mg per day. For patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors, do not exceed 2mg per day (see Interactions). For patients taking central nervous system depressants, dose adjustment may be necessary because of the possibility of additive effects. Taking this medicine with or immediately after a high-fat/high-calorie meal is expected to slow its absorption and reduce its effect on sleep latency.

How to take

Precautions

This medication acts as a central nervous system depressant and may cause drowsiness or behavioral impairment the next day after administration. Caution is particularly needed when taking a high dose of 3mg during activities such as driving or operating machinery. Additionally, combining it with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol can enhance its effects and may be dangerous, so it is recommended not to combine these substances. This medication should be taken before bedtime, and taking it while awake may result in side effects such as amnesia, hallucinations, and dizziness. Elderly or frail patients may be more sensitive to this medication, increasing the risk of drowsiness and falls, so the dosage should be adjusted lower and closely monitored. If insomnia persists for more than 7-10 days, further psychiatric or physical evaluation may be necessary. Serious allergic reactions such as swelling of the tongue, throat, or larynx or difficulty breathing may occur in patients who are taking this medication for the first time or are currently on it, so if any unusual symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and see a doctor. Complex sleep behaviors, such as driving or eating while asleep, may occur, and patients may not remember these actions, so if experienced, use should be stopped immediately. This medication may lead to abuse or dependence, so patients, especially those with a history of drug or alcohol abuse, should use it with caution and only under a doctor's guidance. Pregnant or nursing women should consult their physician before taking this medication, as its safety has not been fully established. This medication is not indicated for use in children, particularly those under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been confirmed. There may be interactions with other medications, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist of any drugs they are currently taking. Store this medication out of the reach of children and keep it sealed in its original container.
