Improvement of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms
This medication is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before sleep. For the first 4 to 6 weeks, a dosage of 5 mg should be given. After evaluating clinical response during this period, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg per day, monitor for gastrointestinal adverse reactions closely. Underweight elderly women should not exceed 5 mg per day.

This medication contains donepezil hydrochloride as the active ingredient and is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia. This drug should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals Allergic to this medication or its ingredients, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and those with hereditary issues such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease should use this drug with caution. In particular, those with sick sinus syndrome or heart conduction disorders should be careful since this medication may slow the heart rate or cause arrhythmias. Patients currently taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or those with a history of peptic ulcers should take this medication under medical supervision as it may increase gastric acid secretion, worsening symptoms. Patients with a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should also be cautious as this drug may cause increased bronchial constriction and mucus secretion, worsening their symptoms. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson’s disease should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as it may worsen neurological symptoms. This medication can cause various adverse reactions. Cardiac-related issues such as fainting, bradycardia, heart block, and myocardial infarction have been reported, as well as gastrointestinal issues like peptic ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. Hepatic dysfunction, neurological issues such as epilepsy, muscle symptoms, shortness of breath, acute pancreatitis, and acute renal failure may also occur rarely, so patients should notify their doctor if symptoms appear. Psychiatric symptoms such as hallucinations, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and confusion have been reported, and severe cases may require drug adjustment. This medication interacts with many other drugs, so it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medications you are currently taking. Caution is especially needed when taken with medications for cardiac arrhythmias, antidepressants, antibiotics, anticholinergics, and certain drugs affecting liver metabolic enzymes. It is safer for pregnant or nursing women to avoid using this medication, and if necessary, it should be done under professional guidance. Safety in children has not been established, so usage in pediatric patients is generally not recommended. Taking this medication may temporarily impair driving or machinery operation capabilities, requiring caution, especially during the initial treatment or dosage adjustment. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur, so strictly adhere to the dosage and seek immediate medical attention if abnormal symptoms arise. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original packaging for safety.
