Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes. It primarily functions as an adjunct to dietary therapy and exercise therapy and is administered when blood sugar control is inadequate with monotherapy of Metformin or Pioglitazone. It is also used as a substitute treatment for the combination therapy of Metformin and Pioglitazone. Management of type 2 diabetes requires nutritional counseling, weight loss, and regular exercise, and this medication helps to enhance blood sugar control effects when combined with these lifestyle improvements. It supports the overall health of patients by improving blood sugar control.
The dosage of this medication should be individualized based on efficacy and tolerability within the maximum doses of the components, which are Pioglitazone 30 mg and Metformin 2500 mg. The initial dose should be based on the patient's current treatment regimen and started at one tablet daily, gradually adjusting the dosage based on therapeutic response. For patients converting from a combination therapy of Pioglitazone and Metformin, the current dosing can be continued. Take with meals.
This medication helps in controlling blood sugar and is primarily used for patients with type 2 diabetes. However, during the course of treatment with this medication, severe lactic acidosis, a rare complication, may occur, so caution is needed. Lactic acidosis can become a dangerous condition due to excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body, particularly when renal function is impaired or there are issues with the heart or lungs. Furthermore, patients with impaired liver function or excessive alcohol consumption should avoid taking this medication as it may pose risks. Patients with heart disease or symptoms of heart failure should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it should not be used in cases of severe heart failure. While taking this medication, side effects such as weight gain, edema, headache, dyspepsia, diarrhea, etc., may occur, and if these symptoms are severe, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Particularly for those with a history of bladder cancer or suspected symptoms of bladder cancer, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary to determine the appropriateness of this medication. It is safer not to use this medication in pregnant women, women of childbearing potential, nursing mothers, or children. Elderly patients may have reduced renal function, so dosage should be adjusted, and renal function should be monitored regularly. Additionally, if a patient is scheduled for surgery or is in a poor condition due to sudden dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea, this medication should be temporarily discontinued. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider, particularly if those drugs can affect renal function. Finally, during the course of taking this medication, regular monitoring of blood sugar, liver function, renal function, blood tests, etc., should be performed, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary.
