Improvement of type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be prescribed as a monotherapy alongside diet and exercise, and can be combined with other antidiabetic agents if sufficient effect is not achieved. Additionally, it is crucial for patients with type 2 diabetes to undertake nutritional counseling and, if necessary, weight loss and exercise therapy, as these efforts support not only the initial treatment but also help maintain the effectiveness of drug therapy. This medication is effective in improving blood sugar control.
This medication is taken orally once daily regardless of meals. For monotherapy, start with 15 mg once daily; if the effect is insufficient, it may be increased to 30 mg once daily. In combined therapy, 15 mg is administered once daily with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. The maximum recommended dosage does not exceed 30 mg once daily.
There is no experience with use in children under 18 years, so administration is not recommended.

Edema or weight gain may occur; if these symptoms appear, a consultation with a doctor is advisable, particularly for patients with heart disease. If symptoms of liver dysfunction arise, immediate medical attention should be sought, and routine liver function tests are recommended. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function is necessary while taking this medication, and any abnormal symptoms should promptly be reported to a doctor. Moreover, premenopausal women should use an appropriate contraceptive method, as this medication may induce ovulation. Elderly patients or those with renal or hepatic dysfunction should use this medication with caution, and may require dosage adjustments or regular check-ups.
