View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with Type 2 Diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise. It can be administered alone, or in combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents if blood sugar improvement is difficult. Additionally, patients should receive nutritional counseling and, if necessary, practice weight loss and exercise, as such lifestyle changes significantly enhance the effectiveness of medication and help maintain long-term blood sugar control. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

As monotherapy, it can be initiated at 15 mg once daily, and if efficacy is insufficient, it may be increased to 30 mg once daily. In combination therapy, the initial dose is 15 mg once daily, and the maximum recommended dose should not exceed 30 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and works in conjunction with insulin to lower blood sugar levels. During the use of this medication, there is a risk that heart failure, a condition of decreased heart function, may occur or worsen, so if symptoms such as sudden weight gain or difficulty breathing and swelling appear, one should immediately notify their doctor. Patients with a history of heart failure should not use this medication, and those with heart disease should use it very cautiously. This medication can cause fluid retention, which may worsen edema or heart failure, so immediate consultation with healthcare providers is necessary if symptoms like swelling or difficulty breathing arise. Furthermore, this medication should not be administered to patients with bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and if symptoms like hematuria or urinary problems occur during treatment, one should immediately notify their doctor. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function should not take this medication, and if symptoms of liver dysfunction (fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, jaundice, etc.) arise, one should seek medical evaluation immediately. Since this medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia, care should be taken when taking it in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, and dosage adjustment may be necessary as needed. Pre-menopausal women may experience enhanced ovulation with this medication, leading to an increased possibility of pregnancy, so appropriate contraceptive methods should be used. Elderly patients, particularly those over 75 years old, may have an increased risk of side effects when taking this medication, so caution is warranted. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests is required during the use of this medication, and if weight gain or edema occurs, healthcare providers should be notified. While overdose may not present specific symptoms, appropriate treatment is necessary based on symptoms. This medication has not been proven safe and effective for children, so it should not be used in this population. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container.
