This medication helps improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensations due to chronic arterial occlusive disease. It also has the effect of preventing recurrence after an ischemic stroke other than cardiogenic cerebral embolism. Therefore, it is used to improve the symptoms of these conditions and prevent recurrence by facilitating blood circulation.

How to take

Adult dose

As cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg taken orally once a day. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.

Precautions

This medication can increase heart rate, causing symptoms of angina, so careful observation for symptoms such as chest pain is necessary. It should not be administered to patients at risk of bleeding or those who have had recent bleeding disorders, including patients with congestive heart failure and those allergic to the components of this drug, as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients taking anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, or thrombolytics should use it cautiously due to the increased risk of bleeding. Women who are menstruating or patients with severe renal failure, liver failure, diabetes, persistent hypertension, or heart disease should also take this medication with caution. During treatment, symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, palpitations, arthralgia, and chest discomfort may occur, and if any serious adverse effects arise, medical personnel should be notified immediately. For patients with stroke, administration should occur after symptoms stabilize, and blood pressure control is very important; caution is required if blood pressure is elevated. Signs of bleeding or blood disorders should be reported immediately, and necessary examinations should be performed. Dizziness may occur, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with food may increase its concentration, so it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach, especially after high-fat meals. Since this drug is metabolized in the liver, caution should be taken with potential drug interactions if taken with certain medications. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not use this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued during use. Its safety has not been established in children, so its use is not recommended. Elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to decreased bodily functions. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, hypotension, and tachycardia may occur, hence immediate medical treatment should be sought. For patients with renal or hepatic impairment, care should be taken as drug concentration may change.
