How to take

Adult dose

Donepezil hydrochloride is administered at a dose of 5 mg once daily before bedtime. Use 5 mg for 4-6 weeks, evaluating clinical response before increasing to 10 mg. When increasing to a daily dose of 10 mg, it is necessary to monitor for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients with dementia may frequently experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, which are mostly mild and temporary. This medication can affect heart rhythm, so regular ECG examinations may be necessary for patients with heart diseases or a history of QT interval prolongation. It may affect driving or machinery operation, so caution is needed during the initial dosage or when the dosage is changed. There may be interactions with other medications, especially when used concurrently with heart medications, antibiotics, antidepressants, or antipsychotic drugs; consultation with a specialist is required. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication unless it is indispensable, in which case consulting a specialist is recommended. Safety in children has not been confirmed, so it should not be used in children. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may manifest, necessitating immediate medical attention, and antidotes may be used if necessary.
