This medication helps improve symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. It gradually reduces the thickened prostate tissue, facilitating urine flow and alleviating urinary disorders. Additionally, it can reduce the frequency of acute urinary retention, thus preventing sudden urination issues. Continued use of this medication contributes to reducing cases that require prostate surgery. Consequently, it effectively alleviates symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How to take

Adult dose

As Finasteride, take 5 mg orally once daily regardless of meals. Treatment for at least 6 months is necessary for symptom improvement.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to children and women. In particular, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication; however, if it is unbroken, it is safe to handle under normal conditions since it is coated. During the use of this medication, depression or mood changes may occur; therefore, it is essential to observe mental state closely, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. Those with allergies to this medication or its components should avoid taking it, and it should not be used by individuals with lactose intolerance or allergies to soybean oil, beans, or peanuts. Generally, this medication is well tolerated; however, in rare cases, side effects such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, breast enlargement or pain, skin rashes, muscle pain, myasthenia, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, testicular pain, hematospermia, sexual dysfunction, male infertility, heartburn, dizziness, headaches, itching, hypersensitivity reactions, tingling in both hands, fatigue, otitis media, and liver function abnormalities may occur. Long-term use has been reported to carry a risk of male breast cancer; however, a clear causal relationship has not yet been established. This medication may influence the risk of prostate cancer, thus men aged 55 and older need to undergo regular check-ups and monitor PSA levels. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and women who may become pregnant must be cautious not to handle broken pieces of this medication. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is not used. In the elderly, no specific dosage adjustment is needed, but consultation with a healthcare provider considering other health conditions is advised. During the use of this medication, PSA levels may decrease, so caution is needed in interpreting test results. There is no specific antidote in case of overdose, and the recommended dosage should be adhered to. Keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container for safety.
