This medication is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered to individuals who have not previously received diabetes medication or who find blood sugar control difficult with monotherapy. Additionally, this medication may be used in combination for individuals who do not achieve adequate efficacy with metformin monotherapy or the combination of metformin and other medications. For instance, it can be combined with sulfonylureas, insulin, empagliflozin, etc. This therapy helps to more effectively manage blood sugar levels. This medication improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication is administered twice daily with meals. The dose is determined based on each patient's treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability, with a maximum of linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg not exceeding twice a day. 1. If not previously treated with metformin: Start with this medication at 2.5/500 mg twice daily, taking 1 tablet at a time, and may increase to 2.5/1000 mg, twice daily, taking 1 tablet per dose.
This medication helps control blood sugar levels. However, the use of this medication can rarely lead to serious side effects such as lactic acidosis, which may result in death. This medication should not be used in patients with an allergy to its components or in those with type 1 diabetes, lactic acidosis, or severe renal impairment. Patients in acute conditions such as dehydration, severe infection, or acute myocardial infarction should also exercise caution. When used with other medications that may cause hypoglycemia, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary. Patients with decreased renal function should undergo regular renal function tests, and this medication should not be taken in cases of severe renal impairment. Patients with impaired heart function should periodically monitor heart and kidney function while using this medication, and the intake of this medication should be temporarily stopped before and after surgery or radiological examinations. During treatment with this medication, rare side effects such as pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities occur, consult a doctor immediately. The metformin ingredient may lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to periodically check vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding mothers, should not use this medication. It is not recommended for children and adolescents as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients commonly have decreased renal function, so appropriate dosing should be determined based on renal function, and regular tests are necessary. In cases of overdose, there may be an increased risk of lactic acidosis, so it is important to strictly adhere to the prescribed dose. This medication should be stored in a sealed container, protected from moisture and direct sunlight, and should not be transferred to another container.
