View approved original text

This drug is used to help control blood sugar in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It is especially effective for patients who have not previously been treated with diabetes medications or who find it difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy. This drug can also be used when metformin monotherapy is insufficient, and it is administered when switching from linagliptin and metformin combination therapy. If blood glucose control is inadequate with metformin and sulfonylurea combination therapy, insulin and metformin combination therapy, or metformin and empagliflozin combination therapy, this drug can be added to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. In summary, this drug is used to improve blood glucose control in various therapeutic situations.

How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this drug is determined by considering each ingredient's maximum recommended dosage of linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin 1000 mg not exceeding twice a day, taking into account each patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability. This drug is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If currently not being treated with metformin: The initial dosage for this drug is 2.5/500 mg, taken twice daily, with 1 tablet per dose.

Precautions

This drug is used in the treatment of diabetes, with two main ingredients working together to control blood sugar. Before taking this drug, it should not be used if there are specific diseases or allergies. For example, it should be avoided in cases of severe renal impairment, liver dysfunction, type 1 diabetes, acute cardiac issues, severe infections, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. This drug can cause a rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, weakness, or difficulty breathing occur during use, a doctor should be notified immediately. Hypoglycemic reactions can occur if blood sugar falls too low. Caution is particularly needed when used with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, and immediate action should be taken if symptoms arise. Regular blood tests are required to monitor kidney function due to the risk of impaired renal function, and the use of this drug may be temporarily stopped in situations where kidney function deteriorates rapidly. Some patients may experience side effects such as pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid, so if severe abdominal pain or skin abnormalities develop during treatment, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This drug can lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is important to check for vitamin B12 deficiency during long-term use. Furthermore, this drug may interact with other medications, so if any other drugs are currently being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist, especially if those medications may affect kidney function. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are advised to consider insulin therapy instead of this drug, and it is best not to use this drug while breastfeeding. This drug is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments and regular monitoring due to the potential for decreased kidney function. There are no specific reported effects on driving or operating machinery, but caution is needed due to the possibility of hypoglycemia and related symptoms. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances and the risk of lactic acidosis may occur, and immediate treatment at a hospital is required, with blood dialysis being the most effective detoxification method. This drug should be stored in a tightly closed container, away from moisture and out of reach of children, and should not be transferred to another container.
