This medication is a blood glucose control aid, especially for patients with type 2 diabetes. It should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, and kidney function should be regularly checked to ensure it is normal. Lactic acidosis, which is a serious side effect, may rarely occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, muscle pain, weakness, or difficulty breathing occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with liver dysfunction or those with acute heart failure or acute myocardial infarction. It is advisable not to use this medication in pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, as well as nursing mothers. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, blood glucose levels should be closely monitored when used in conjunction with sulfonylureas or insulin. Some patients may experience allergic reactions such as pancreatitis or bullous rashes, so if severe abdominal pain or skin abnormalities occur, notify healthcare providers immediately. Prolonged use may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so vitamin B12 testing should be done if necessary. There may be interactions with other medications, so if taking other medicines, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should be temporarily discontinued before surgery or radiological examinations and resumed after kidney function recovers. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function; therefore, dose adjustments and regular kidney function checks are necessary. It is not recommended for children and adolescents as safety and efficacy have not been established.
