Improvement in control of essential hypertension
This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with either amlodipine or olmesartan medoxomil monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure and helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, this medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended dosage for adults is 1 tablet once daily, with or without food. It is advisable to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The recommended dosing is as follows: - 5/20 milligrams: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 5 milligrams of amlodipine or 20 milligrams of olmesartan medoxomil monotherapy. - 10/20 milligrams: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 20 milligrams of olmesartan medoxomil.
The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and neonate if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be administered to those who are allergic to the active ingredients, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe liver disease or aortic stenosis, patients with biliary obstruction, patients undergoing dialysis, patients in shock, or certain diabetic patients. Patients with a deficiency of fluids or sodium may experience hypotension; therefore, they should be closely monitored when starting this medication, and appropriate measures should be taken if hypotension occurs. Due to the vasodilatory effect, acute hypotension may rarely occur, so particular caution is necessary for patients with heart valve abnormalities or severe heart disease. Patients with impaired kidney function or heart failure may experience worsened renal function when taking this medication, so regular testing is needed. This medication can cause electrolyte imbalances, such as hyperkalemia, so blood tests should confirm the status when taken with drugs that may increase potassium levels. Taking this medication during pregnancy poses a risk of fetal damage; therefore, individuals planning or confirming pregnancy should consult their doctor before deciding to take this medication. During breastfeeding, there is a possibility that this medication may be transferred to breast milk, causing adverse reactions in infants. Therefore, it is recommended to either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking the medication. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients should start at a low dose considering diminished kidney and liver function and comorbid conditions, and should take it cautiously. In cases of overdose, hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, requiring immediate hospital treatment, where cardiac and respiratory functions should be closely monitored. This medication should be stored away from moisture and heat, and kept out of reach of children.
