This medication is used to treat ulcers in the stomach and duodenum and anastomotic ulcers. It also improves upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and hemorrhagic gastritis. It is effective for gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and helps alleviate symptoms of gastric mucosal lesions during acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis, such as erosions, bleeding, redness, and swelling. Overall, this medication is used to treat damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa and alleviate symptoms.

Caution should be exercised while using this medication in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug, and those with kidney, heart, or liver problems, as well as in the elderly. Especially in patients with decreased kidney function, drug concentration in the blood may increase, necessitating a reduction in dosage or adjustment of dosing intervals. This medication can cause cardiovascular side effects in patients with heart conditions, so caution is essential. During use, serious side effects like allergic reactions, severe skin rashes, blood disorders, liver function abnormalities, myalgia, heart rhythm abnormalities, or consciousness disturbances may occur. If any abnormal symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately, and medical attention should be sought. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed through the oral mucosa, hence it must be swallowed with water. Patients receiving blood dialysis should be cautious, as taking this medication alongside phosphate binders may reduce its effectiveness. Moreover, when taken with certain antifungals or specific anticancer medications, the concentration of the drug may be affected, leading to decreased efficacy, so patients must inform their doctor or pharmacist before taking. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments as the drug can remain in their body longer due to decreased kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits before taking this medication. If breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue nursing as the drug may pass into breast milk. Safety for children has not been adequately determined; therefore, special caution is needed when administering to children. Finally, this medication can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so it is safer to confirm the absence of malignant diseases before using.
