This medication is used to treat hypertension, stable angina, and myocardial ischemia due to variant angina caused by vasospasm. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for angina in patients with coronary artery disease confirmed by recent angiography who have no heart failure or whose cardiac output is over 40%. It is effective in reducing the risk of complications after coronary artery revascularization. This medicine helps in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, thereby improving patients' cardiovascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, take 5 mg of amlodipine orally once daily, and depending on the patient's response, it may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg per day. Adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who have had an allergy to this drug or similar medications, those who are breastfeeding, individuals with severe liver dysfunction, those with severe aortic stenosis, and those in a state of shock should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised when using this medication. Patients with severe hypotension, kidney disease requiring dialysis, elderly individuals, and women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should take this medication carefully under medical supervision. Common side effects that may occur while taking this medication include facial flushing, fatigue, swelling of the hands and feet, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, symptoms such as blood pressure drop, skin rashes, allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities, and neurological symptoms may occur, and immediate consultation with a doctor is required if there are any abnormal symptoms. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function may be more sensitive to the effects and side effects of this medication, thus requiring special caution. This medication takes time to show its effects and is not suitable for emergencies such as acute angina. It is known that this medication does not affect driving or machinery operating abilities; however, caution is advised if dizziness or drowsiness occurs. Interactions may occur when taking this medication with others, so it is important to consult a doctor or pharmacist, especially when taken together with certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, statin drugs, or grapefruit juice. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant or breastfeeding women; therefore, it is advisable to determine its use in consultation with a doctor if needed and to discontinue breastfeeding if taking this medication. For children, it is available for use from 6 years and older; safety and efficacy in children under 6 years have not been established. In case of overdose, severe blood pressure drop and heart function abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and this medication is not removed by dialysis, necessitating professional care.
