Relief of symptoms of acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis
This medication helps relieve pain and mobility impairment in the acute exacerbation of osteoarthritis in a short period of time. It also effectively treats the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, reducing the discomfort for patients. It is used to improve symptoms associated with various arthritis-related conditions.
Acute exacerbation of osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease): ○ Adults: Administer meloxicam 7.5 mg orally once daily. If symptoms do not improve, the dose may be increased to up to 15 mg daily as needed. Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: ○ Adults: Administer meloxicam 15 mg orally once daily. The dose may be reduced to 7.5 mg daily according to response to treatment. Do not administer more than 15 mg of this medicine daily. Take the entire daily dose at once with water or another beverage during a meal. ○ In elderly patients or those at increased risk of adverse reactions (e.g., a history of gastrointestinal disease or risk factors for cardiovascular disease), treatment is usually initiated at a dose of 7.5 mg daily. ○ Patients with severe renal impairment receiving hemodialysis should not receive more than 7.5 mg daily.
People who regularly consume more than three alcoholic drinks a day should consult with a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication, as it can cause gastrointestinal bleeding when taken with alcohol. This medication carries the risk of causing cardiovascular problems, so individuals with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors should use it with caution. If symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or stuttering occur, intake should be stopped immediately. This medication can cause serious problems like gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, or perforations, especially in older adults or those with a history of gastrointestinal diseases. If symptoms of abdominal pain or bleeding are suspected, seek medical attention immediately. Severe allergic reactions, rashes, blisters, or mucosal damage may occur, so if these symptoms arise, immediately stop taking the medication and seek a doctor's care. It may affect kidney function, so individuals with renal disease or diminished kidney function should have their kidney function monitored regularly while taking this medication. This medication should not be taken by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as it can affect fertility; therefore, women planning to become pregnant should also avoid it. Children, particularly adolescents under the age of 15, should not use this medication, nor should patients with severe liver disease, kidney disease, heart failure, or hypertension. When taking this medication, it should be used at the minimum necessary dose for the shortest duration possible, and regular blood tests and checks on liver and kidney function should be performed for long-term usage. Due to many drug interactions, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any current medications being taken, particularly caution is necessary when taken with anticoagulants, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate, etc. Caution is required while driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness, dizziness, and other symptoms. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal bleeding may occur, and in severe cases, it could lead to renal failure, liver failure, or coma, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored sealed in its original container.
