Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by women who are breastfeeding. In patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, the gastrointestinal motility-stimulating effect of this medication may be harmful, therefore it should not be administered. In patients with certain tumors such as pheochromocytoma, this medication may cause hypertension, so it should not be used. Patients with allergies or intolerance to this medication should avoid its administration. It is advisable to avoid use in patients with liver disease, and in the manic phase of bipolar disorder. Caution is warranted in patients with breast-related diseases, as this medication may cause gynecomastia or hyperprolactinemia. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic digestive disorders should not take this medication due to the lactose it contains. Special caution is necessary when using this medication in hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly; for children, the dosage may need adjustment as extrapyramidal symptoms may appear more readily. This medication may lead to amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia, and gynecomastia symptoms due to hormonal secretion anomalies, so it should be discontinued immediately if symptoms occur. Rarely, symptoms such as body tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and restlessness may occur, so medication should be stopped if these symptoms appear. Prolonged use may result in involuntary movements around the mouth that may persist even after discontinuation of the medication. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may also appear. Cardiac issues may arise, leading to hypertension or arrhythmias, so caution is advisable. In severe cases, symptoms of neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, manifesting as high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, requiring immediate discontinuation of the drug and treatment. Skin rashes or swelling may occur rarely; if these symptoms appear, medication should be stopped. During the use of this medication, drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and fatigue may occur, so driving or operating machinery is not recommended. This medication can interact with other drugs, especially anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, benzamides, and psychiatric medications. It is safe to avoid taking it with alcohol and not to use it with drugs that may cause electrolyte imbalance. It is safer not to use this medication during pregnancy or nursing, and the elderly should be cautious as renal function may decrease, leading to higher drug concentrations, necessitating careful adjustment of dosage and intervals. While this medication can help relieve vomiting, it may be limited in effectiveness for vomiting due to intoxication, obstruction, or brain tumors, so caution is warranted. Long-term high-dose use has been reported to reduce reproductive function or pose a risk of certain tumors, necessitating caution during prolonged use.
