This medication is used for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It effectively lowers elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglycerides in the blood, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It also increases HDL cholesterol levels, reinforcing the role of good cholesterol. As an adjunct to dietary therapy, it plays an important role in improving patients' blood lipid status, thereby helping to balance overall blood lipid levels and enhance health.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, the usual initial dose is 1-2 mg of pitavastatin calcium taken once daily. If the effect of lowering LDL cholesterol is insufficient, the dosage may be increased up to a maximum of 4 mg per day. The dose should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or longer depending on LDL cholesterol levels, treatment goals, and patient response. Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with allergies to certain ingredients. Patients with impaired liver function or liver disease should avoid this medication. Rhabdomyolysis, a serious muscle damage condition, may occur, so if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, discontinue the medication immediately. This medication is mainly metabolized in the liver, so regular liver function tests should be performed, and if any abnormalities arise, the medication should be discontinued. When taking with other specific medications, there may be an increased risk of renal function deterioration or muscle-related side effects, so it is essential to consult a doctor. It is particularly advisable to avoid co-administration with cyclosporine, fibrates, niacin, erythromycin, etc. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to decreased physical function, hence dose adjustment and caution are necessary. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication as it may harm the fetus or infant. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, so it is not used.
