Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers (antacid effect, symptom improvement) and gout attacks
This medication acts as an antacid to alleviate symptoms of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and discomfort from excessive gastric acid. It also shows effectiveness in improving acidosis. Furthermore, it is used to enhance uric acid excretion and prevent gout attacks. Therefore, it is a medication beneficial for digestive diseases and gout prevention.
As sodium bicarbonate, take 0.5-1g per dose, 3-5g per day orally. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication contains sodium, and it should not be used by patients who need to limit sodium intake. For example, patients with hypernatremia, edema, gestational hypertension, urinary bladder stones, or hypertension may experience adverse health effects from taking this medication. Additionally, since this medication contains lactose, patients with hereditary issues such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. Patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, poor kidney function, heart or lung issues, and electrolyte imbalances should take special care when using this medication. While taking this medication, metabolic abnormalities such as alkalosis or edema due to sodium retention may occur; therefore, appropriate measures such as reducing the dosage or temporarily discontinuing use should be taken if symptoms appear. Also, digestive symptoms such as abdominal distension, belching, and, rarely, excessive gastric acid secretion may occur. Patients with heart failure, edema, sodium retention, or issues with urine excretion should use this medication with caution, and when treating alkalosis, it is advisable to take it in a fasted state before meals and use it with other antacids to reduce carbon dioxide stimulation. Prolonged use may lead to alkalosis, thus regular monitoring is necessary. This medication can raise acidity in the body and gastrointestinal tract, which may affect the absorption or excretion of other drugs; careful management is required when using concomitant medications. Additionally, taking it with a large amount of milk or calcium supplements may cause milk-alkali syndrome, so if these symptoms occur, immediately stop taking the medication and consult a physician.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Caution is required when taking this medication with a large amount of milk, as milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, hypernitrogenemia, alkalosis, etc.) may occur.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture; therefore, it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This will help to preserve the medication's effectiveness for a long time.
