Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. Additionally, patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, or perforation should avoid this medication as it can stimulate gastrointestinal motility and worsen their condition. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with a genetic disorder that impairs lactose digestion should not use it. Patients should be cautious about serious side effects when taking this medication. Rapid allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis, may occur, so if symptoms such as low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, or hives appear, the administration of the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Liver dysfunction or jaundice may develop, so liver function should be monitored, and administration should be discontinued if any abnormalities occur. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and increased salivation. Central nervous system effects may include headaches, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and dizziness. Hormonal changes can lead to gynecomastia or increased prolactin levels, so if any abnormal symptoms are noticed, the medication should be discontinued. Blood tests may reveal decreased platelets or white blood cells, so regular monitoring should be conducted. Kidney function may be affected, resulting in elevated blood BUN or creatinine levels. Rarely, allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching may occur, so caution is advised. Symptoms of movement disorders, such as tremors, may also rarely occur. Additionally, chest or back pain and fatigue may present, so any abnormal symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional. This medication enhances the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, so this should be taken into consideration during use. If gastrointestinal symptoms do not improve, long-term use should be avoided. When used in conjunction with anticholinergic drugs, their effects can counteract each other, potentially reducing this medication's effectiveness; therefore, care should be taken to space out doses. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only take this medication if the benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. During breastfeeding, this medication may be excreted in breast milk, so it should be avoided if possible, and if it must be taken, breastfeeding should be paused. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution should be exercised. Elderly patients may experience an increased risk of side effects due to decreased physical function, so any abnormal symptoms should be closely monitored, and considerations for dosage adjustment or drug holidays should be made. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may alter its quality or lead to accidents, so caution is necessary.
