This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive reflux esophagitis, and is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It helps alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, the treatment of duodenal ulcers, and to prevent recurrence of peptic ulcers. It provides short-term relief of gastrointestinal pain and discomfort associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration, and contributes to the treatment of gastric ulcers and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers that may occur in patients on prolonged administration. It is also effective in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and in the prevention and maintenance therapy of rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. It is widely used for the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders and related symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with an allergy to certain components or benzimidazole derivatives. Patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should also be cautious, as well as patients with a history of certain antiviral medications or myocardial infarction, and breastfeeding women should avoid use. Since it contains Yellow 5 dye, it should be administered with caution to patients allergic to this ingredient. While using this medication, various adverse reactions may occur, such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin rash, so if symptoms are severe or persistent, medical advice should be sought immediately. Long-term use may lead to electrolyte abnormalities such as hypomagnesemia, necessitating regular blood tests. Additionally, this medication may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach by reducing gastric acid, so if diarrhea persists, inform the healthcare provider. There may also be interactions with other medications while taking this medication, so inform your doctor of any other medications being taken, especially when used in conjunction with anticoagulants, antibiotics, and antiviral drugs. Caution should be exercised during pregnancy, and it is safer not to take this medication while breastfeeding. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so immediate medical attention should be sought, and it should be kept out of reach of children.

Serious side effects

Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic reaction, shock, jaundice, liver failure, encephalopathy, mucocutaneous syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), interstitial nephritis, rhabdomyolysis, severe allergic reactions, severe skin adverse reactions, severe swelling or urination abnormalities, severe neurological symptoms.

Mild side effects

Headache, dizziness, paresthesia, drowsiness, taste disorders, blurred vision, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, gastrointestinal candidiasis, dermatitis, itching, rash, hair loss, photosensitivity, fractures, arthralgia, myalgia, muscle weakness, increased liver enzymes, hepatitis, asthenia, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, abdominal swelling, allergic reactions, back pain, chest pain, sternal pain.
