This medication helps improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensitivity resulting from chronic arterial occlusion, Buerger's disease, occlusive arteriosclerosis, and diabetic peripheral vascular disease. It also suppresses the recurrence of cerebral infarction occurring after non-cardioembolic stroke. Therefore, it is used for improving blood circulation and alleviating ischemic symptoms, as well as preventing recurrent cerebral infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

As cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg taken orally once daily. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.

Precautions

This drug may increase heart rate and worsen angina symptoms, so symptoms such as chest pain must be carefully monitored. It should not be used in patients with bleeding risk or bleeding disorders, or those who have had a recent hemorrhagic stroke or surgical procedure. Patients with congestive heart failure, a previous hypersensitivity reaction to this drug, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers should also not take it. Patients on anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, thrombolytics, menstruating women, patients with coronary artery stenosis, severe renal or hepatic failure, diabetes, hypertension, or those with cardiac rhythm disorders should be administered this drug with caution. During administration, abnormal reactions such as headache, diarrhea, palpitations, joint swelling, and chest discomfort may occur; therefore, any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately and appropriate measures should be taken. If symptoms of bleeding or signs of blood disorders occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and a blood test should be conducted, as dizziness may occur, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Taking this drug with food can increase its blood concentration and side effects, so it is better to take it on an empty stomach and maintain a 3-hour interval from meals. This drug is metabolized in the liver, so when taken in conjunction with drugs that inhibit liver metabolic enzymes, the blood concentration may increase, requiring dosage adjustment or caution. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this drug, and particularly, women who may become pregnant should confirm before administration. Children, newborns, and the elderly may have different physiological functionalities and require special attention; the elderly may require dosage adjustment. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, hypotension, tachycardia, and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, requiring immediate appropriate treatment in a medical institution.
