For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Generally, 10 mg is administered orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once a day. This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers such as gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective for relief of symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and as a long-term maintenance therapy. It can be used in combination with antibiotics for patients infected with Helicobacter pylori, and it may occasionally assist in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is used for the treatment and symptom relief of various gastric disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Generally, 10 mg is administered orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once a day. Treatment duration is up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg is administered once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have allergies to certain components or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is particularly necessary for those allergic to penicillins and macrolide antibiotics when taking this medication together. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication. Patients with liver dysfunction or elderly individuals should use this medication with caution, and being cautious is also needed for those with a history of drug allergies. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur and should be addressed by a doctor if severe. Central nervous system symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and insomnia may occur, and any unusual symptoms should be reported. Various side effects such as respiratory symptoms, skin rash, and hair loss have been reported, so if symptoms persist, consultation with a specialist is necessary. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, so consult a doctor if using it long-term. Additionally, long-term use may result in low magnesium levels, requiring regular blood tests and magnesium supplementation if necessary. This medication strongly suppresses gastric acid secretion and may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach. Caution is needed as drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions with other medications, particularly if taking antibiotics, antiviral drugs, or anticoagulants, so it is important to inform the doctor or pharmacist. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so appropriate treatment should be provided according to symptoms. This medication must be taken whole and not chewed or crushed. Store out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers.

Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain of mucous membranes in mouth/eyes, difficulty swallowing or breathlessness, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination issues.

Mild side effects

Occasionally includes rash, itching, blood cell abnormalities (anemia, leukopenia, leukocytosis, eosinophilia, neutrophilia, lymphocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia), elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST, ALP, γ-GTP, LDH, total bilirubin), hypertension, myocardial infarction, ECG abnormalities, migraine, syncope, angina, and heart block.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to avoid exposure to air or moisture, and it is recommended to keep it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication.
