This drug treats various peptic ulcer diseases such as ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, anastomotic ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also effective for gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It improves symptoms by alleviating damage to the gastric mucosa, such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling that occur during acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis. It helps protect and heal the gastric mucosa and improves digestive function. Overall, it is used to treat inflammation and bleeding related to various gastrointestinal disorders.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who have had an allergic reaction to its ingredients or to other H2 receptor antagonists. Additionally, since this medication contains lactose, people with lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance, or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. Individuals with a history of drug allergies should use this medication with caution, and those with impaired kidney function may need to reduce the dose or increase the interval between doses due to potential increased drug concentration. Those with heart disease should take care when using this medication due to the risk of cardiovascular side effects, and individuals with poor liver function should also exercise caution as symptoms may worsen. Elderly patients are at a higher risk of decreased kidney function, which could lead to increased drug concentration, so dose adjustment may be necessary. While taking this medication, serious allergic reactions, blood cell reductions, severe adverse reactions on the skin and mucous membranes, liver dysfunction, muscle damage, cardiac arrhythmias, consciousness disorder or seizures, nephritis, and pneumonia may occur rarely; therefore, they should consult a physician immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. Generally, treatment progress should be monitored closely, and only the minimal effective dose should be used; if no effect is observed, alternative treatment should be considered. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed through the oral mucosa; therefore, it must be swallowed with water or saliva. Patients undergoing dialysis should be cautious as taking this medication alongside phosphate binders may affect calcium absorption. This medication may have reduced concentration or efficacy when taken with certain antifungals or some anticancer drugs, so it should be reported to a physician. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only take this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, and breastfeeding individuals are advised to discontinue nursing as the drug may be transmitted through breast milk. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, and there is limited experience in use, so caution is advised. Finally, this medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; therefore, it should only be used after ensuring that there are no malignant diseases.
