This medicine helps control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it is used in patients aged 55 years or older with a high risk of cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death due to cardiovascular diseases. It can be an effective treatment option, especially for those who find it difficult to take ACE inhibitors. Therefore, it plays a significant role in both hypertension management and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk.

Precautions

This medicine can cause severe harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in individuals allergic to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severely impaired liver function, those with hereditary angioedema, and patients with certain renal diseases or diabetes. Elderly individuals or those with high potassium levels in the blood, liver or heart disease, or impaired kidney function require special caution when using this medication. While taking this medicine, regular checks of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels are necessary to detect adverse reactions early and respond accordingly. Rarely, serious side effects such as angioedema, hyperkalemia, worsening of kidney function, liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, and rhabdomyolysis may occur, so consult a healthcare professional immediately if such symptoms appear. When used in conjunction with other antihypertensive drugs, the blood pressure-lowering effect may be increased, and the risk of renal function impairment and hyperkalemia may be heightened, so caution is advised when combining therapies. Specifically, the concurrent use of this medication with ACE inhibitors or aliskiren is not recommended, and when used with lithium preparations, serum lithium levels should be monitored closely. It is advisable not to administer this medication within 24 hours prior to surgery, and overdose may cause hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure, necessitating immediate treatment. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is best avoided in pediatric use. When driving or operating machinery, caution is advised as dizziness or fainting may occur due to the effects of this medication.
