Treatment for essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, reducing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. It also helps reduce the risk of major cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly used in high-risk patients aged 55 and older who cannot use ACE inhibitors to lower the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death from cardiovascular diseases. It plays a crucial role in protecting cardiovascular health and preventing complications. Therefore, this medication is effective for both blood pressure control and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Take 40 mg once daily orally with water, can be taken regardless of meal timing. Depending on the patient, 20 mg once daily may also be effective, and if necessary, the dose can be increased to up to 80 mg once daily. For reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, it is recommended to take 80 mg once daily. Patients with liver impairment should not exceed 40 mg once daily.
This medication can pose a serious risk to the fetus during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication, and it is advisable to avoid it during breastfeeding. It is safe to avoid using this medication in patients with severe liver impairment, biliary obstruction, or cholestasis. Patients with a history of hereditary angioedema or who experienced angioedema while using ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists should also avoid this medication. Diabetic patients or those with moderate to severe renal impairment should not combine this medication with certain drugs and should be cautious if renal function is diminished. Older adults, patients with hyperkalemia, patients with mild liver impairment, and patients with valvular heart disease or ischemic heart disease should use this medication with caution. If blood pressure drops excessively, serious problems such as myocardial infarction or stroke can occur, so caution is necessary. Although this medication lowers blood pressure, a variety of adverse reactions such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, cough, skin rash, etc., may occur. In particular, serious side effects such as angioedema, hyperkalemia, worsening renal function, liver dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, and rhabdomyolysis can occur, so if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects when taken with other antihypertensive drugs, and there may be an increased risk of renal function deterioration or hyperkalemia when combined with certain drugs. Therefore, if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist, and regularly check renal function and electrolyte status through blood tests. Patients with low blood volume or sodium, and those undergoing surgery, should stabilize their condition before taking this medication, and if symptoms of hypotension appear, seek appropriate treatment immediately. This medication contains sorbitol, so it is not suitable for patients with fructose intolerance. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of dizziness or fainting. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and acute kidney failure may occur, so immediate medical treatment is necessary. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. When storing, keep this medication out of reach of children and be cautious of humidity; open the packaging just before use.
