Candidal vaginitis is a condition caused by a fungal infection known as Candida. This medication is used to relieve the symptoms of candidal vaginitis and to treat the infection.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

1. 100 mg: Usually, 100 mg of clotrimazole is inserted deeply into the vagina once daily at bedtime for a continuous duration of 6 days. For short-term therapy, usually 200 mg of clotrimazole is inserted deeply into the vagina once daily at bedtime for a continuous duration of 3 days. 2. 200 mg: Usually, 200 mg of clotrimazole is inserted deeply into the vagina once daily at bedtime for a continuous duration of 3 days. 3. 500 mg: Usually, 500 mg is given once daily at bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who have had an allergic reaction to the active ingredient or any of the excipients in the past. During the use of this medication, caution should be exercised if the patient is taking certain immunosuppressants, such as Tacrolimus or Sirolimus, as it may increase their blood concentrations. Individuals on these medications should be closely monitored. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication after consulting with a doctor, and it is advisable to avoid the use of insertion devices during pregnancy. Breastfeeding women should also consult with a doctor before using this medication, though it is unlikely to significantly transfer into breast milk, suggesting a low potential for systemic side effects. It is recommended not to use this medication during menstruation, and it is preferable for sexual partners to be treated for infection as well. Maintaining personal hygiene by frequently changing and washing towels or underwear can help prevent re-infection. It is advisable to avoid the use of tampons, vaginal douches, and other vaginal insert products during the use of this medication, and sexual intercourse is also not recommended. Care should be taken to prevent this medication from coming into contact with the eyes, and it should never be ingested. If symptoms such as high fever, lower abdominal pain, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge occur, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. While there are no reported cases of toxicity due to overdose, if a large amount is accidentally ingested, it is advisable to seek medical assistance promptly. This medication may weaken rubber products such as condoms or vaginal contraceptive diaphragms, so caution is advised when using it.
