Improvement of gastric ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions (erosion, bleeding, etc.)
This medication is used to treat various conditions related to gastric and duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is particularly effective for improving peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and bleeding associated with hemorrhagic gastritis, as well as gastroesophageal reflux disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Additionally, it helps to improve lesions such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling of the gastric mucosa during acute exacerbations of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. This drug is used to enhance gastrointestinal health and alleviate related symptoms.
For gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Famotidine 20 mg is to be administered orally twice daily (after breakfast, after dinner, or at bedtime) or 40 mg once daily (at bedtime). In case of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, treatment should start with injection, and once oral administration becomes possible, it should be switched to oral administration. For acute gastritis, acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis, etc.

Common side effects may include rash, gastrointestinal issues, blood pressure changes, dizziness, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. During treatment, regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests should be conducted to monitor the condition. This medication dissolves in the mouth but is not absorbed in the oral mucosa; therefore, it must be swallowed with water or saliva. Caution is needed when using this medication in conjunction with phosphate binders in patients undergoing hemodialysis, as efficacy may be reduced. It may interact with other medications, so it is especially important to consult a doctor when taking antifungals or certain antineoplastics. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to decreased kidney function leading to increased drug concentration.
