This medication is used to treat upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by gastric and duodenal ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and peptic ulcers as well as acute stress ulcers. It is also effective in treating bleeding due to hemorrhagic gastritis and managing gastroesophageal reflux disease. It helps improve gastric mucosal lesions (erosions, bleeding, redness, swelling) due to conditions associated with excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, as well as acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis. In injectable form, it is also used prior to anesthesia, and overall, it is widely used for the treatment of upper gastrointestinal diseases and to protect the gastric mucosa. This medication is used to improve and treat various symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Oral administration: 1. Precautions

This medication should not be used by those who have had allergic reactions to this drug's ingredients or similar medications. Furthermore, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be taken by individuals with a genetic condition that prevents lactose digestion. Those with drug allergies, poor kidney function, heart disease, weak liver function, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously. During the course of this medication, serious allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, skin rashes, liver dysfunction, muscle issues, cardiac arrhythmias, consciousness disorders, kidney problems, pneumonia, and other side effects may occur; if any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. Additionally, while this medication dissolves in the mouth, it should be swallowed with water or saliva as it is not absorbed through the oral mucosa. Regular blood tests, liver function tests, and kidney function tests should be conducted, and if therapeutic effects are absent, switching to another medication is recommended. Caution must be taken if patients on dialysis use this medication along with phosphate binders, as the effectiveness of the drug may be reduced. This medication may alter drug concentrations when taken with certain antifungal agents or specific anticancer drugs, so it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist if other medications are being taken. Elderly individuals may need reduced dosages or longer intervals between doses due to decreased kidney function, leading to prolonged presence of the drug in the body. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when its benefits outweigh risks, and breastfeeding mothers are advised to discontinue breastfeeding as this medication may be passed through breast milk. Safety has not been adequately established for use in children, and thus it is not recommended. Finally, this medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; therefore, it should only be used after confirming that it is not gastric cancer.
