Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a gradual decline in memory and cognitive functions, and this medication helps to relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients.
The maximum daily dose is 20mg, and it should be increased by 5mg weekly over the first 3 weeks. Week 1 (days 1-7): Administer 5mg per day. Week 2 (days 8-14): Administer 10mg per day (5mg twice daily). Week 3 (days 15-21): Administer 15mg per day (10mg in the morning, 5mg in the evening). This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to its components or in those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It should be administered with caution to patients with epilepsy or those who have a history of seizures, and co-administration with certain medications may worsen side effects, so concomitant use should be avoided. Patients with conditions that may cause changes in urine acidity or those with recent cardiovascular issues should also exercise caution. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headaches, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may occur; if symptoms are severe, consult a physician. There is a potential for drug interactions, particularly with medications affecting the central nervous system, so patients must inform their physician if they are taking any other medications. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a physician before taking this medication, and discontinuation of breastfeeding is recommended during treatment. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, hallucinations, and vomiting may appear; immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. This medication can affect the central nervous system and impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, so special caution is advised when engaging in these activities during treatment.
