View approved original text

This medication is used to help adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. It can be administered either in conjunction with diet and exercise or alone, and is effective for those who have not previously received diabetes medication or who have difficulty achieving sufficient blood sugar control with metformin monotherapy. Additionally, it can be administered in place of the combination therapy of linagliptin and metformin, or when blood sugar control is inadequate with the combination of metformin and sulfonylureas, insulin and metformin, or metformin and empagliflozin. This medication aids in improving blood sugar levels in conjunction with various treatment methods.

Precautions

This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes and helps control blood sugar levels. It should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components, patients with type 1 diabetes, those with severe kidney impairment, patients with acute infections or dehydration, individuals with severely impaired liver function, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding may be at risk if they take this medication. While taking this medication, one must be cautious of symptoms of hypoglycemia. Especially when taken together with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and medication dosages adjusted as necessary. Rare side effects such as lactic acidosis may occur, particularly in cases where kidney function declines rapidly or in the presence of heart disease, liver disease, or severe infections. Therefore, kidney function and overall health status should be regularly monitored, and symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Since this medication is excreted through the kidneys, elderly individuals or those with kidney disease must take extra caution and should undergo regular kidney function tests. Additionally, this medication may interact with some other drugs, so if there are other medications being taken, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist, and dosage adjustment or monitoring may be required. In case of pregnancy or if planning to become pregnant, insulin therapy is recommended in place of this medication, and it is advisable not to use this medication during breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children and adolescents since its safety and efficacy have not been established. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, muscle weakness, or difficulty breathing occurs while taking this medication, consult a healthcare professional immediately.
